Jesus M. Torres

Jesus says...
"The Wal-Mart Leadership in Technology and Innovation Award has given me the motivation and means to continue my educational goals. Because I don’t come from an affluent family, it is sometimes difficult for my parents to provide the necessary financial support. But this scholarship has opened many doors for my future and given me the motivation and drive to be successful."

About Jesus

Jesus Torres was born in Nacozari, Sonora, Mexico, and was raised in Tucson, Arizona. He is the first in his family to attend a university and his family and cultural heritage are extremely important to him.

Jesus came to Eller College after earning an Associate of Business, Associate of Arts, and Associate of General Education from Pima County Community College, where he held a 3.5 GPA.

While at Pima, he founded and became the president of the Pre-Business Club, Desert Vista Campus, which is still a viable and successful club. This club gives students an idea of what business is about and what majors are available for them. In addition, it gives the students the guidance to transfer into any university to pursue a business degree. He continues to participate in the meetings to share information and insights as to the challenges he faced while transferring to The University of Arizona.

Sine he joined the Eller College, Jesus has held leadership roles with both the Hispanic Business Student Association (HBSA) and Management Information Systems Association (MISA). He was the Executive Vice President for MISA and Vice President of Administration for HBSA.

Jesus is fluent in Spanish. He is a double-major in Management Information Systems and Operation Management and hopes to secure an IT Analyst position after graduation in May 2010.
