Eller College Undergraduate Tuition Surcharge

In 2003, students from the Eller College spearheaded a movement to develop a tuition surcharge for the Eller College Professional Program. The tuition surcharge was designed to provide the Eller College with funds to improve quality and retain top faculty.

A professional program fee (tuition surcharge) is assessed every semester to students in Eller's undergraduate professional program. The current surcharge is $400, but fees are subject to annual review by the Arizona Board of Regents and may be subject to change. Students in the professional program before Fall 2006 pay $250 per semester.

During summer and winter sessions, students will incur an additional $25 per unit fee for all courses offered by Eller departments (both lower and upper division).

As approved by the Arizona Board of Regents, Economics majors in the College of Social and Behavioral Sciences are assessed a Tuition Surcharge of $400 per semester. The charge begins with the semester in which they first take Econ 332 and/or Econ 361. Economics students who enrolled in Econ 332 or Econ 361 before Fall 2006 pay $250 per semester.

This surcharge continues for all subsequent semesters until graduation.

One percent (1%) of the surcharge is designated to be given back to the student body through the Excellence Fund (Student Appropriations Board) . This board meets monthly to look at proposals from the student body, both groups and individuals. Please see the appropriations website for an update on recent programs that have been funded.

Fifteen percent (15%) of the surcharge is "set aside" each semester to be given as scholarships.

As agreed by the Eller College Student Council and FESO membership in spring 2004 (for cohorts entering the professional program Fall 2004 and later), the 15% set aside yielded from the tuition surcharge will offset Arizona students with need (determined by the Federal Financial Aid records). In addition, the top 4% of each incoming professional cohort will receive an Eller Merit Scholarship to cover the cost of their tuition surcharge. These students must have a minimum of 30 UA units in order to be eligible for the Eller Merit Scholarship. General Scholarships will be awarded throughout the year by the departments in the Eller College as they become available. Please see our scholarship website for more information.
