Sands Computing Lab

Sands Lab History

The need was real and Eller College alum Buzz Sands '63 jumped right in to help. Voilá! The Sands Computing Lab for undergraduate students is now a reality!

The 48-station lab (pictured at right) is located on the first floor of McClelland Hall and easily accessible to Eller College undergrads. Within five minutes of opening day in June, the lab filled with summer session students-mastering business software, checking email, writing papers, printing reports, looking up schedules, and using web-based information resources for class research projects. And it's been that way ever since!

Louis Sands IV, known to everyone as Buzz, is a proud third-generation Arizonan and the lab is named in honor of the Sands family. Both his father, Louis Sands III, and sister, Elizabeth ("Bonnie") Sands Reid also graduated from The University of Arizona.

The pioneering Sands family played a prominent role in Arizona farming and ranching. In the late 1930s, they founded Sands Chevrolet in Phoenix-one of the State's oldest family-owned automobile dealerships.
