MIS 304 Case Competition
“Using and Managing Information Systems”
Friday, April 19, 2013
What: The Eller College MIS 304 Course “Using and Managing Information Systems” is having a case competition Friday, November 16th. All Eller business majors take this class as part of their curriculum, and are challenged by this case competition in the area of effective selection and management of information system initiatives that affect an organization as a whole, and/or departments across an organization.
Case Background: Students will be asked to analyze a fictitious company that is struggling with IT due to problems such as lack of alignment between business strategy and the IS organization, poor IT funding mechanisms that create incentives for counterproductive business decisions, and governance and control problems. Students will make recommendations such as how to change how IT is structured, and how it interacts with and across the organization to facilitate communication, collaboration, and alignment.
Who We are Looking For: Technical IT expertise is not required to be a judge. We are looking for experienced managers and business people to bring a variety of perspectives.
Agenda: There will be two sessions of presentations:
Morning Session: 8:30am – 11:00am
Afternoon Session: 11:30pm – 2:00pm
You can volunteer for either session, or both. Lunch will be provided for all judges from 11:20 until noon.
Judge Orientation and Training is scheduled at 8:30am for Morning session judges and 11:30am (during lunch) for Afternoon session judges. Please be sure to attend this even if you have judged before so we can ensure a quality experience for judges and students alike.
RSVP: Please fill out the registration form below if you would like to volunteer. Remember, you can volunteer for just the morning session, just the afternoon session, or both.
We are always looking for good judges for events, so if you know of someone else in your organization or elsewhere who you believe would be a good for this and who might like to participate, please feel free to either forward this invitation directly to them, or let us know their contact information so we can send them an invitation directly.
